Broadley Vineyardhttp://www.broadleyvineyards.com/ Acres: 30 planted Varieties: Pinot Noir Year Planted: 1986 Soil Type: Jory, Hazelair Clones: Pommard, Wädenswil Elevation: 200 to 900 feet Aspect: E-NE AVA: Willamette Valley Unfortunately 2005 marks the last vintage from this vineyard site. The vineyard planted in the early 1980s is currently being replanted due phyloxera and because Broadley Vineyard Winery utilizes estate fruit for the Broadley proper label they are no longer selling to other producers. The vineyard, located in Monroe, Oregon, also known as the "banana belt," is the hottest site in the Willamette Valley. The warm air and dry conditions are ideal for growing Pinot noir, but to prevent fruit from becoming overripe and protect from storms that traditionally come from the southwest, the vines are planted on an eastern and north-eastern slope. This orientation is unusual, but effective. Pinot Noir from this site is big, brooding and complex with a unique minerality and spice that is the result of the red volcanic Jory and Hazelair soil in which the vines grow. |
